Oh, Vermont!

7:55 p.m. | Oh, Vermont! The Associated Press also reports that voters in two Vermont towns approved symbolic measures Tuesday calling for the indictment of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for what they consider violations of the Constitution.
The work that we face in our time is great
in a time of war
and the terrible sacrifices it entails
the promise of a better future is not always clear
there's gonna be other wars
I'm sorry to tell you there's gonna be other wars
there's gonna be a lot of combat wounds
and my friends it's gonna be tough
and we're gonna have a lot to do
That old Beach Boys song, Bomb Iran?
Bomb Bomb Bomb, Bomb...
I'm still convinced that withdrawal means chaos
and if you think that things are bad now
if we withdraw--you ain't seen nothing yet
was the war a good idea, worth the price in blood and treasure?
It was a good idea
President Bush talked about our staying in Iraq for 50 years
Maybe a hundred, that's fine with me
I don't think Americans are concerned if we're there for a hundred years, or a thousand years, or ten thousand

Horizon: Psychedelic science by Bill Eagles

In the late 1960s, human experiments with psychedelic drugs were brought to a halt. Government reacted to the anarchy of the hippy ... all » counter-culture. The drug-crazed Charles Manson slayings came to symbolise public fear of the street use of LSD. Funding ceased, and the few researchers who battled on were ostracised. But lost in the blanket ban were remarkable research projects in the field of psychiatry that held out new hope for the treatment of schizophrenia and alcoholism. Bill Eagles' extraordinary film tells the story of a handful of dedicated scientists who have struggled to make psychedelic research respectable again. In the USA, psychiatrists Rick Strassman and Charles Grob, and neuroscientist Deborah Mash each quietly began investigations with unknown psychedelic compounds, to avoid the alarm bells of LSD. Strassman pursued the Federal Drug Administration for permission to do safety trials of DMT. Mash works on treating cocaine addicts, achieving success with Ibogaine,...

Street Sweeping?

"As I drove out this AM on my way to work, there was a worker across the street in the construction road sweeping with a broom. As I neared the end of my drive, I spoke with him and told him he could sweep in front of my house if he wanted to since most of the dirt there was from the site. He just smiled.
I asked how much longer the hauling would continue: he said probably 2 more days. Not certain he really knows, but we can only hope!!
I still suspect they are using the site for storage of earth of all kinds for their use elsewhere on future sites.
By the way, I think they like our complaints to the town and Daily News- they like any publicity that mentions their name."

Yes Audrey, I see him out there with his broom but they don't seem concerned with going beyond the edges of their driveway. The mud is about one inch thick by one foot wide all along the front of...

from today's Newport Daily News

Bay Ridge neighbors complain about dirt, truck traffic

By Matt Sheley
Daily News staff
The flow of trucks at the Bay Ridge construction site on Forest Avenue in Middletown has some neighbors angry about the disturbance and amount of dust the trucks leave in their wake. (David Hansen/Daily News staff)
Bruce A. Ryerson said he understands the Bay Ridge development in Middletown is moving forward.
In fact, the Forest Avenue resident said, he wishes all 60 units in the gated condominium complex would be sold and the project completed as soon as possible, so the work doesn’t drag on and further impact the surrounding neighborhood.
Those impacts most recently have included a large number of trucks streaming in to the construction site with uncovered loads of fill from the former Starlight Drive-In property and a large amount of dust, Ryerson and other neighbors said.
On Tuesday, Ryerson said he notified the town about his concerns. Building Official Jack Kane said the situation was under review, bu...

Starlight Drive In Cleanup

OK, so I missed this and just finished connecting the dots -

On January 7th "The Council unanimously awarded a $34,500 contract to East Coast Construction (low bidder) for the pile removal and final clean up of the Drive-In property on Aquidneck Avenue. Acting Administrator Brown explained that the materials to be removed cannot be used in other Town projects. Resident Antone Viveiros questioned the additional cost in the contract for winter cleanup and asked “Why are we in a hurry? Couldn’t we wait until spring?” The Council unanimously voted to amend the contract to remove the paragraph containing the additional cost for cleanup in the winter months. Editor’s Note: Councilwoman Shirley Mello recused herself on this issue without explanation."
(reprinted from Ronald G. Santa's "unofficial" Newsletter.(Link) I would use Clerkbase for the official version but don't have the software to enable me to easily open those document files, nothing comes easy or free)

and the "piles" get moved...
